이 작업은 우리 주변을 감싸고 있는 미생물과의 신체적 대면을 시도한다. 관객은 웨어러블 장치를 착용하고 텅 빈 듯한 공간으로 손을 뻗는다. 아무것도 없는 자리에서 손끝이 문득 떨린다. 손끝의 미세한 떨림은 빛과 소리를 타고 몸 전체로 번진다. 그제야 비어 있다고 믿었던 공간이 앞서 머물다 간 이들이 남긴 미생물의 구름으로 채워져 있음을 몸으로 느낀다. 허공의 접촉은 익숙한 세계를 낯설게 만들고, 그 떨림 속에서 미생물과 나 사이의 경계는 서서히 흐려진다. 비가시적 초월 존재와 연결되는 접신(接神)의 감각을 미생물로 전치한 접균(接菌). 과거의 몸이 남긴 자취와 현재의 내 몸이 시공간을 가로질러 뒤섞이는 이 얽힘 속에서, 우리는 이미 하나의 거대한 생태적 몸으로 공명하고 있음을 깨닫는다.
Channelling proposes that what we have long called channelling—making contact with an invisible, transcendent presence—may in fact be an encounter with microorganisms. This work attempts a bodily meeting with the microbial life that surrounds us. Wearing the device, the audience reaches into a space that appears empty. At a spot where nothing should be, the fingertips begin to tremble. The faint tremor travels through light and sound and spreads across the whole body. Only then does one feel, bodily, that the space believed to be empty is filled with clouds of microorganisms left behind by those who were there before. This contact with thin air renders the familiar world strange, and in that trembling, the boundary between microorganisms and the self begins to dissolve. In this entanglement—where the traces left by bodies of the past and the body of the present intermingle across time and space—we come to realize that we are already resonating as one vast ecological body.
